Jose Peseiro, the head coach of the Nigerian national team, has endorsed Egypt to win the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Peseiro, who was selected as the Super Eagles’ next permanent manager ahead of the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon, feels Egypt has what it takes to win the tournament.
Augustine Eguavoen took over as coach of the Super Eagles before they were ousted in the round of 16 by Tunisia at the AFCON.
In the group stage, Eguavoen’s men had won all of their matches against Egypt, Sudan, and Guinea-Bissau.
“The Africa Cup of Nations is a very strong battle amongst powerful teams,” Peseiro told Kingfut. “The four best teams all through the tournament have reached the semi-finals, including Nigeria, who were the best in the group stage.”
“Egypt struggled against Nigeria, but after that, they showed their true potential, their players put in a fantastic performance against Morocco, and they have what it takes to win the tournament.”
In March, Peseiro is slated to take over as coach of the Super Eagles for their 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff match against Ghana’s Black Stars.
