Jorginho, a Chelsea midfielder, has disclosed that he was once rejected by Palmeiras as a teenager.

Jorginho made the comments ahead of Chelsea’s match against Palmeiras in the FIFA Club World Cup final on Saturday evening.

The Italian international was born and raised in Brazil until the age of fifteen.

“I’ve never played professionally in Brazil, and I’ll let you in on a little secret: when I was a 12-year-old lad, I tried out for Palmeiras, but they didn’t pick me,” Jorginho stated ahead of the encounter in his pre-match news conference.

“That’s my sole memory of Palmeiras, and it’s strange that I’m playing against them in the Club World Cup final 18 years later.”

“I believe it’s a strange coincidence, but football is what it is.”

“Everything happens for a reason sometimes, so maybe it was for the best.” I spoke with my teammates and attempted to explain why winning a trophy is so important to Brazilians.

“It’s a wonderful motivation for us, and we’ll aim to win the championship,” he said.
