Chelsea has issued a statement regarding Russia’s military assault on Ukraine.
This comes less than 15 hours after Russian owner Roman Abramovich stated the club’s “stewardship and care” will be relinquished.
“The situation in Ukraine is horrible and devastating,” a terse statement issued on Sunday morning said.
“Everyone in Ukraine is in Chelsea FC’s thoughts.” “Peace is something that everyone at the club is praying for.”
There is no mention of Russia or the Russian invasion, which is notable.
The Blues were purchased by Abramovich, a Russian tycoon, in 2003.
They’ve won five Premier League titles and two Champions League crowns since then.
