According to Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, Kenya and Zimbabwe have been suspended because of government influence.
Infantino made the announcement during a press conference on Thursday.
The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) was suspended by Kenya’s Ministry of Sports in November 2021, and a caretaker committee was created to oversee soccer activities in the country.
Of November 2021, the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) in Zimbabwe suspended the country’s federation.
“We had to suspend two of our members, Kenya and Zimbabwe, for interfering with the activities of football associations by their governments. “With immediate effect, the associations are suspended,” Infantino stated.
“They understand what they need to do to get readmitted or have their suspensions overturned.”
