Rio Ferdinand, a former Manchester United defender, believes that Chelsea star Conor Gallagher is the strongest candidate to succeed Mason Mount at Stamford Bridge in the near future.
Gallagher, who is now on loan at Crystal Palace, is expected to break into the Chelsea first squad next season, according to Ferdinand, who believes he will eventually take over from Mount.
Gallagher, who is on loan at Crystal Palace, has been in outstanding form this season.
With seven goals, he is the club’s highest scorer in the Premier League.
“It looks like he’s (Gallagher) earned the right to go back to Chelsea when he’s a more mature player to now see where he’s at,” Ferdinand stated on his FIVE YouTube channel. When Mount returned, the situation was the same. They were under no obligation to play him.”
“Mason Mount went back to Chelsea not knowing where he stood in the pecking order, not knowing if he’d have the chance,” Ferdinand continued. Conor Gallagher will accomplish that, and then Conor Gallagher will find out fast whether or not he will be given a shot. Then I believe the decision should be made to leave.”
