Everton manager Frank Lampard has backed Alex Iwobi after his mistake helped West Ham to a 2-1 victory on Sunday.
At London Stadium, Aaron Cresswell’s spectacular free-kick put the Hammers ahead, but Mason Holgate equalized for the Toffees in the second half.
Iwobi, on the other hand, handed up the game-winning goal by failing to control Michael Keane’s pass.
Jarrod Bowen of West Ham pounced on the lost ball and poked it into an empty net.
Lampard, on the other hand, has chosen not to condemn Iwobi for the error, instead praising him for his adaptability.
“I hope people don’t focus too much on the bad and the error because if they do, they’ll forget that Alex [Iwobi] scored the winning goal against Newcastle in our last game.”
“He has the attributes to play in a variety of positions.”
“I thought his effort rate was great, and his performance against a very good West Ham midfield, he gave us a lot by stepping into midfield and doing well,” Lampard added.
