After failing to beat Ghana’s Black Stars in a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff first leg match, Super Eagles interim Technical Adviser Austin Eguavoen has underlined the areas in which his squad needs to improve.

On Friday night in Kumasi, Eguavoen watched as the Super Eagles held the Black Stars to a goalless draw.

During his post-game press conference, Eguavoen stated that the Super Eagles need to improve their reaction time following an action in order to get behind the ball.

“Organization was extremely good,” he remarked, “given the fact that Ghana moves the ball quite well.”

“But we organized, we were in position, we combined well in all lines, but the only thing is that we did not react quickly after an action, and that is something we need to work on, try to get behind the ball as much as possible because you can’t let Ghanaian freedom on the ball because they were very good technically.”

“We wanted to win the game and, if we couldn’t, at least settle for a draw,” he continued. That is precisely what occurred.”

On Tuesday, Nigeria will face Ghana in a rematch at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
