Darren Bent, a former Tottenham Hotspur player, has alleged that Lionel Messi does not want to play for Paris Saint-Germain.
Messi, according to Bent, would like to be at Barcelona and does not appear to fit in at PSG.
Messi, 34, has just failed to live up to the expectations he has set for himself at PSG.
After his contract with Barcelona was not renewed, the Argentine captain joined PSG on a free transfer in the summer of 2021.
But, like Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, Bent feels Messi, who was unable to stop PSG from tumbling out of the Champions League against Real Madrid, regrets his decision to join Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
“One or two fantastic touches,” he told talkSPORT, “but I was expecting so much more from [Messi].”
“What I’ll say about Messi is that he reminds me of Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.
“At United, Rashford appears unhappy, and Messi appears to be saying, ‘I don’t want to be here.'” If he returned to Barcelona, perhaps the smile on his face would return.
“I don’t think we’ll see the Messi we saw last year, who was head and shoulders above the competition.”
“However, he doesn’t appear to fit in at PSG.” I’m sure he’s thinking to himself, ‘I wish I was back at Barca.’ In the first place, he didn’t want to leave.”
