Aribo, Bassey up for Europa League POTW award. The Super Eagles duo, Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey, have been nominated for the UEFA Europa League Player of the Week award.
Aribo and Bassey were in action as Scottish Premiership outfit Glasgow Rangers missed the chance to win their first European title in 50 years after a 5-4 penalty shootout defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday night.
Aribo, Bassey up for Europa League POTW award. The versatile Aribo, who led his team’s attack following an injury to regular forward Alfredo Morelos, put the Gers ahead in the 56th minute.
The goal was Aribo’s first for Rangers in the Europa League this season.
His superb strike was cancelled by Colombia forward Rafael Borre 13 minutes later.
Bassey, who played in an unfamiliar centre-back position, earned rave reviews for his spirited display in the encounter.
The 22-year-old was a thorn in the flesh of Eintracht Frankfurt’s strikers all through the energy-sapping game.
The duo will battle goalkeeper Kevin Trapp and Borre for the individual prize.
