Chris Hughton, the former Brighton manager, is expected to succeed Milovan Rajevac as Ghana’s new head coach.
Hughton was chosen as Rajevac’s replacement at a meeting between the Ghana Football Federation (GFA) and the Sports Ministry on Friday.
Otto Addo had been the front-runner for the post, but he has since been beaten by the former Premier League manager.
Hughton, who visited Ghana to see his family, has been cleared by the government and the GFA to become a substantive coach, according to Ghana Soccernet.
The 63-year-old will have to reschedule his travel return to England as a result of the latest development.
In the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs, Ghana will face fierce rivals Nigeria next month.
