Gernot Rohr, the former Nigerian head coach, has picked Maduka Okoye as the team’s top goalkeeper.
During Rohr’s tenure as manager, he made the Sparta Rotterdam stopper his first option. He was fired in December.
At the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, Augustine Eguavoen, who took over from the German on an interim basis, also elected to start Okoye.
Despite the fact that Okoye was blamed for the Super Eagles’ elimination from the Cameroon competition, Rohr has maintained his defense.
“He was the fourth choice when he came in, but after what he performed at Sparta Rotterdam, he was the first choice in 18 months.” Because of his meteoric climb, you may expect some blunders. He put in a lot of effort to achieve his goal.
“The goalkeepers in Nigeria are quite talented, but Maduka has an advantage in that he is regular for a team in the Dutch league, where he was the second-best goalkeeper last year.”
“He’s on his way to Watford for a record sum for an African goalie his age.” Rohr told OwnGoalNigeria, “I am proud of him.”
