The forward played 13 years at Old Trafford, where he helped the club win five Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2008.

All of those trophies were won when Ferguson was in charge of the Red Devils, with Rooney becoming a major member of the Scot’s squad.

However, in October 2010, a feud between Rooney and his manager developed, with Rooney stating his desire to leave the club amid a disagreement about each party’s ambition.

Rooney came into Ferguson’s office at one point during the nasty brawl and demanding to know which players will be targeted in the transfer window.

Rooney has now spoken out about the squabble, stating that United’s plan to trade both Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez worried him.

“I just felt like the club had offered me a new five-year contract at the time, and we’d sold Carlos Tevez and Cristiano Ronaldo,” he told the Mirror.

“So, if you want me to commit for the next five years, I needed guarantees about who we’re bringing in.”

“Are you going to try to develop a team over the next three, four, or five years to be successful, or are you going to bring in people to help us improve?”

“That’s exactly what I said, and he instructed me to leave the office!”

“I understand having a young boy come in and ask him questions about how the team is moving ahead since he’s perhaps the best manager of all time.”

“I absolutely understand having a young boy come in and ask him questions about how the team is moving ahead since he’s perhaps the best manager of all time.”

Rooney would eventually do a U-turn and sign a new five-year contract, but he conceded that his actions had certainly left Ferguson feeling ‘disrespected.’

“He maybe felt a little disrespectful from that standpoint,” Rooney remarked, “but I was doing it from a personal standpoint.”

“If you want me to commit for five years, you have to tell me what the strategy is, who we’re bringing in, and obviously to get them answers,” he said, which led to what transpired next.

“It became harder after that, but I believe that if you look back a few years, the majority of Manchester United fans agree.”

“They were asking the same questions that I had been asking for a few years because I could see where the club was going.”
