According to Deadline, the documentary will follow Donald Sterling, the former owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, amid his 2014 troubles.
The story is based on Ramona Shelburne’s ESPN 30 For 30 podcast of the same name, which covers the real-life events of the team attempting to win the 2014 NBA championship against the Golden State Warriors. A series of scandals erupted for the squad after Sterling was caught on film making racist remarks.Weaver will play Sterling’s wife Shelly, and the Matrix actor will play Clippers coach Doc Rivers.
Gina Welch is writing the series, and she will also produce it alongside Shelburne, Nina Jacobson, and Brad Simpson.
“Gina Welch has done an incredible job adapting this tale for FX, capturing Doc Rivers and the Clippers players’ unprecedented resolve and grace amid this devastating incident,” said Nick Grad, FX’s President of Original Programming, in a statement. “Gina, Nina Jacobson, and Brad Simpson go even deeper into this critical period in contemporary sports, building on Ramona Shelburne’s breakthrough reporting.”
There hasn’t been any word on when the show will debut.
