Saint, 4, Chicago, and 2-year-old Psalm, the 44-year-old rapper’s three boys, were in attendance, while his 8-year-old daughter North was not.
Over 50 Black journalists were invited to talk about issues like enhancing equity and representation on the red carpet, “humanizing Black voices in media and narrative,” and “wiping away cancel culture,” among others.
West wore a black puffer coat with a hood, black jeans, and his new go-to gear, huge black snow boots.
Each of his children wore their own set of huge black boots, as if they were following in their father’s footsteps.
During the brunch, West spoke briefly about his desire to start a movement during Black History Month in February.
‘This is the way things are going to be in the future.’ ‘There is no looking back – only forward,’ West told the packed crowd.
Jason Lee of Hollywood Unlocked and Michelle Mitchell, Strategic Communities Program Manager, Media Partnerships at Meta, joined him on the panel.
According to a press release, they discussed topics such as “black future and elevating the culture,” “desegregation in media,” “the importance of equity and having a seat at the table,” “redefining black stories and humanizing how we’re portrayed in media, as well as the metaverse,” and “redefining black stories and humanizing how we’re portrayed in media, as well as the metaverse.”
At the conclusion of the conversation, West presented Lee with flowers for paving the way for Black journalists and spearheading the all-Black media brunch.
“I appreciate you giving me my flowers,” says Jason Lee, owner of Hollywood Unlocked, “but the objective of this brunch is to give you all your flowers.”
At the occasion, black journalists from Essence, Ebony, Billboard, New York Times, Vibe Magazine, Instyle, and Forbes were present.
They were joined by black executives at Amazon Studios, FOX SOUL, BET and Spotify, ‘to see how Black media can build a brighter future for the next generation and unionize together to help amplify more Black voices.’
