The ‘Made in Italy’ actor and the ‘Almost Famous’ star will star in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, which will recount the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer and his role in the development of the atomic bomb.

According to Deadline, D’Arcy and Angarano will star in the film with a star-studded cast that includes Cillian Murphy, who will play the eponymous part, as well as Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, and Benny Safdie.

Sir Kenneth Branagh was joined to the cast of ‘Oppenheimer’ last month, bringing the 61-year-old actor and director back together with Nolan after their past collaborations on ‘Dunkirk’ and ‘Tenet.’

Branagh will appear in the film, which is set to be released in July 2023, in an unidentified role.

Last month, Universal Pictures and Syncopy announced that principal photography on the film had begun.

Nolan will write and direct ‘Oppenheimer,’ which he will also produce alongside Emma Thomas and Charles Roven.

It will be shot in New Mexico, New Jersey, and California, among other places across the United States.

Pugh will portray Jean Tatlock, a member of the Communist Party of the United States who had an affair with Oppenheimer, while Safdie will play Edward Teller, a Hungarian physicist.

Malek is apparently expected to portray another scientist, though no details have been revealed.

After a bidding war between several major Hollywood companies, including Nolan’s former collaborator Warner Bros., Universal purchased the film’s rights.

“Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas’ films have smashed the limitations of what cinematic narrative can achieve,” stated Universal Filmed Entertainment Group Chairman Donna Langley. We are ecstatic to be collaborating with them on this exceptional and extraordinary endeavor, and we appreciate their shared enthusiasm for the theatrical experience.”

The story of J. Robert Oppenheimer was previously portrayed on the big screen in the 1989 movie ‘Fat Man and Little Boy,’ starring Dwight Schultz as the scientist and Paul Newman as General Leslie Groves.
