Senegal is one of the favorites to win the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, according to Chelsea veteran Petr Cech.
Cech was referring to Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, who was just crowned FIFA’s top goalkeeper, making him the first African to receive the honor.
The Senegalese goalkeeper enjoyed a fantastic debut season at Stamford Bridge, keeping a clean sheet in the Champions League final and being named the greatest goalkeeper in the world by FIFA.
Cech, a former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper, believes Mendy can help Senegal win the AFCON championship, allowing them to add to their collection of trophies this year.
“He [Mendy] is at the AFCON right now, and Senegal is one of the favorites, so he might win it before he comes back to us.”
“Then, in a few weeks, we have the Club World Cup and the Carabao Cup final to look forward to.” Cech stated on Chelsea’s official website, “Hopefully, he will be on the receiving end of three more trophies.”
Senegal’s next AFCON match is on Sunday against Equatorial Guinea in the quarterfinals.
