The recently 50th anniversary celebration of the Grammys was supposed the feature performance from Bad Boys 4 main act, Will Smith, but didn’t go well for him.

Once known as the Fresh Prince before cementing his status as one of the greatest mainstream rappers of the 1990s, Will had to pull out of the show at the last minute due to scheduling conflicts. Complex News reports.

The hip-hop tribute organizer, Questlove, at the red carpet spoke to Variety that:

“I’ll give the spoiler alert away. Will Smith was apart of the festivities tonight, but they started shooting Bad Boys 4 this week. There were a lot of preliminary shots that he had to do, so we had to lose Will.”

Questlove explained that trying to get Smith for the gig was “a shot in the arm” as the Hollywood icon is “always onset, making movies.” The 54-year-old and his co-star, Martin Lawrence, announced the sequel last week.

Will wasn’t the only hip-hop star who had to pull out of the party. In an interview with The New York Times, Questlove revealed that Lil Wayne and Future were also scheduled to appear at the Grammys, but both pulled out at the last minute.

Quest still managed to curate a star-studded roster, which included trailblazers such as LL Cool J, Queen Latifah, Big Boi, De La Soul, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Grandmaster Flash, Grandmaster Melle Mel, Ice-T, Method Man , Public Enemy, Rakim, Run-DMC, Salt-N-Pepa, Scarface, Busta Rhymes and Too Short.

Speaking to New York Times, Questlove said;

“I explained to them all that I understand the historical significance of it. But you’ve got to understand that there is a new generation that has a seat at the table. Our job is to make it right.”

He made a unique point obvious during his speech when he added that;

“I know this reeks of a lot of overcompensatory acts, but just trust me, the old guard is gone and the new guard is the establishing guard. What should’ve been due to you 35 or 40 years ago is coming to light now.”

The truth be said, 360media Music saw this coming. Times are changing and the old acts should give way for the new generation of artists. The entertainment industry can only get bigger and better, no matter what the situation may be.
