Blue’s Transfer Rumors: Euro Bosses Attempt A Charm Attack To Entice Thriving Star Graham Potter. AC Milan and Chelsea have been frequent trading partners in recent times. The Serie A champions have benefitted greatly from the signings of Fikayo Tomori and Olivier Giroud.
The two clubs maintain excellent relations and according to Calciomercato, their recent Champions League clash was used as the perfect time to sound out another deal.
They state Milan chiefs Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara both touched base on the idea of signing Ruben Loftus-Cheek last week.
Blue’s Transfer Rumors: Euro Bosses Attempt A Charm Attack To Entice Thriving Star Graham Potter. Chelsea hosted Milan at Stamford Bridge and ran out comfortable 3-0 winners last Wednesday. However, the Milan officials had more on their mind than just the match.
Maldini is the club’s technical director, while Massara is their director of football. Per Calciomercato, the pair ‘reiterated their appreciation for [Ruben] Loftus-Cheek’ to their Chelsea counterparts.
Milan are still looking for the long-term successor to Franck Kessie who joined Barcelona on a free. Milan reckon Loftus-Cheek could fill that void and are banking on the player wanting a change of scenery.
Chelsea must show faith on Loftus-Cheek
However, Loftus-Cheek looks a rejuvenated player in recent times and has already made seven starts across all competitions this season.
He seemingly has a fan in new boss Graham Potter who has played him in his preferred central midfield position in each of Chelsea’s last four matches.
What’s more, the Blues’ engine room could soon be gutted.
Both N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are out of contract next season. The midfield pair are both the wrong side of 30 and it’s not inconceivable that one or both could depart.
That would place greater responsibility on the likes of Loftus-Cheek and Conor Gallagher. Those two upping their game and filling the void would allow Chelsea to spend their money elsewhere, such as on Christopher Nkunku.
Tellingly, Calciomercato’s report concludes ‘there is no room for negotiation’ at present. The inference there is Chelsea aren’t open to selling Loftus-Cheek.
Given other stars’ contracts, Potter’s faith in Loftus-Cheek and his own growing influence, Chelsea would be wise not to sell.
Kante intentions made clear
The French destroyer, 31, reportedly rejected the last contract extension that was tabled.
Kante was offered a two-year deal with an option for a third, according to the Athletic. The deal was rejected with Kante miffed at the length of the terms.
Indeed, Kalidou Koulibaly – who is also 31 – signed a three-year deal with an option for a fourth.
That led to speculation a cross-London switch could be on the cards to either Arsenal or Tottenham.
However, according to French outlet Foot Mercato, Kante only has eyes for Chelsea.
It’s claimed he’s not looking for a new club and would gladly extend his stay at Stamford Bridge.
His desire for a longer term deal than what he’s been offered was reiterated, meaning the ball is now in Chelsea’s court.
