At the 94th Academy Awards, a moment of silence was observed in honor of those fighting for Ukraine and their lives.
The Oscars urged celebrities to help provide food and medical attention to Ukrainian families in need during the 30 seconds of silence.
“We would like to hold a moment of silence to show our solidarity for the people of Ukraine who are currently facing invasion, violence, and hatred within their own borders,” read the statement on the screen.
“While the video is an important vehicle for us to communicate our humanity during times of conflict, the fact is that millions of Ukrainian families require food, medical care, clean water, and emergency services.”
“Resources are limited, and as a global society, we can accomplish much more.”
“We ask you to #StandWithUkraine by supporting Ukraine in whatever manner you can.”
The conflict in Ukraine has lasted more than a month, with Russia continuing to attack its neighbor.
Since President Vladimir Putin initiated a “special military operation” bombing major towns in Ukraine, including Kharkiv, Mariupol, and Kyiv, over 1,000 civilians, including children, have died.
For safety, a quarter of Ukraine’s 44 million citizens have migrated to neighboring countries like Poland and Romania.
