Asamoah Gyan, a Ghanaian icon, has apologized for using the word “nonsense” when saying that Anderlecht midfielder Majeed Ashimeru deserved to be in the Black Stars’ team for their 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff match against Nigeria on Friday.

Gyan reportedly used the term nonsensical after Ashimeru was left out of Ghana’s squad for the upcoming match against Nigeria, according to the 360 MEDIA.

Recall that Ghana’s national team coach, Otto Addo, announced a 27-man roster to face Nigeria’s Super Eagles in Kumasi.

Addo left Ashimeru off of his team, but Gyan has since said that he was overcome by emotion.

On Tuesday, Gyan revealed this in a tweet on his Twitter account.

“I still insist that Ashimeru deserves to be in this current Black Stars BUT am sorry for using the word ” Nonsense ” in my statement thus I fully remove that word, I was carried by my emotions,” the former Sunderland star tweeted.

Meanwhile, Nigeria will face Ghana in the return leg four days after the first-leg encounter on Friday in Kumasi.
