David Umahi, the governor of Ebonyi State, has revealed why he withdrew his appeal for a stay of execution from the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Umahi stated that he made the choice after appealing the ruling that removed him and his deputy from office.
Remember that Umahi and his deputy, Dr. Kelechi Igwe, were both fired from their positions by Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
However, on Monday, the Court dismissed Umahi’s and his deputy’s motion for a stay of execution, which asked the Court to halt the execution of its March 8, 2022, judgment removing them from office.
The governor and his deputy voluntarily withdrew the application for stay of execution, according to a statement issued by Umahi’s spokesman, Mr. Francis Nwaze, on Monday. The matter had been entered at the court of appeal, and the records of proceedings had also been transmitted to the appellate court.
The statement asked the public to avoid “mischievous” interpretations and insinuations concerning the Federal High Court’s Monday ruling, which dismissed Umahi and his deputy’s motion for a stay of execution.

“This was because an appeal had been filed with the court of appeals, and the transcripts of the hearings had been sent to the appellate court.”
“On the notice above, PDP counsel Emmanuel Ukala did not object to the application.
“As a result of confirmation that a genuine appeal had been filed at the Court of Appeal, Abuja division, appealing the judgment on them and at this time, Ekwo struck out the application.”
“Let me also confirm that a valid application for a stay of execution has been made at the Court of Appeal, which now has jurisdiction over the case, and we urge the good people of Ebonyi State and supporters of our Presidential Hopeful and the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Umahi, to remain calm, avoid being distracted, as we are on a divine mandate and the court remains the final hope of a common man, just as we are optimistic that we will win in the end.
