Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom has presented a list of fresh nominations to the state House of Assembly, and five commissioners in the state cabinet will be removed of their positions at any time.
This was revealed in a statement released by the Commissioner of Information and Strategy at the conclusion of the state Executive Council meeting on March 17, 2022.
“The meeting began at lunchtime with the Governor, presiding as Chairman-in-Council,” the announcement stated in part. Secretary to the State Government, Head of the Civil Service, Honourable Commissioners, and Special Adviser were all present at the meeting.
“The Chairman-in-Council stated that the Executive Council would be reshuffled, with five Commissioners stepping down. As a result, names have been sent to the House of Assembly to be screened and cleared.”
The council was also given an update on all ongoing projects by the various supervising Commissioners, according to the statement, and the commissioners were given orders to ensure that the jobs under their supervision were completed as quickly as possible, as well as to submit the dates for commissioning of all their projects.
“The Head of the Civil Service gave an update on the Human Resource Management System Project’s execution, praising the system for its efficiency in administering the civil service.”
“The Nigerian Union of Teachers’ ongoing strike drew attention, and council was updated on the union’s demands.”
The council ordered that the relevant ministries take the required steps to resolve the issue as soon as possible. A meeting with the Union’s leadership is currently taking place.
