Kai Havertz, a Chelsea forward, has offered to pay for his own travel to away matches as the Premier League team struggles to operate under UK government expenditure limitations.
The government-sanctioned the Blues’ Russian owner Roman Abramovich, and the team now operates under a special license.
Chelsea will not be able to fly to Middlesbrough for their FA Cup match this Saturday, instead opting for a 10-hour bus ride.
Havertz, on the other hand, has stated that he is willing to pay out of pocket.
“I’d gladly pay; it’s not a problem for me.” For us, it’s not a huge problem.
“The most essential thing is for us to attend the games.” If we have to take the train or bus to an away game, I believe there are a lot worse problems in the world right now. It is not an issue for me to pay.
“It isn’t easy.” “I believe such a situation has never occurred at Chelsea before, so it’s a little strange, but we are professionals, and situations like this can occur,” Havertz told reporters on Tuesday, with Chelsea’s FA Cup quarter-final match against Middlesbrough coming up three days after their Champions League trip to Lille.
