The ‘Friday I’m in Love’ rockers are rumored to be working on two separate albums, with frontman Robert also working on a solo project.
One of the CDs is finished, and the other, ‘Songs Of The Last World,’ is almost done.
“So I’ve been working on two Cure albums, and one of them is finished,” he told NME.
“Unfortunately, the second one has been completed. On the other hand, I have to do four vocals for each record, and each album has ten songs. I have three weeks until we mix next month on April 1st.
“It’s called ‘Songs Of The Lost World,’ and I know what it’s called.” It has artwork, a running order, and is almost finished! Because of the vinyl, they’re taking their time, but it could arrive in September. It would be better if it just came out. “I can’t take it any longer.”
“Well, the first Cure record is continuous doom and misery,” he added about what fans might expect. It’s the most idiotic thing we’ve ever done. The second is more lively, and my [solo] album isn’t due until next year.”
The 62-year-old singer revealed that he was “a little disenchanted” when recording his solo album, which he thought sounded “rubbish.”
“I have to keep reviewing it,” he added. It’s something I’ve wanted to accomplish for a very long time. I’ve realized I only have one shot at it, so I’ve started to incorporate real instruments and acoustic instruments, while two years ago it was just feedback – but I’ve become dissatisfied with it. I’d listened to it three times and thought it was terrible.”
The ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ singer previously described the project as a “hour-long noise” album, which his Cure comrades turned down.
Robert was commenting after he and Chvrches won Best Song In The UK for ‘How Not To Drown’ at the BandLab NME Awards 2022.
They also took to the stage to give the song its live debut and also covered The Cure’s hit ‘Just Like Heaven’.
