After paying a N2 million fine for allegedly disobeying a court order, the Legal Adviser of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Jimoh Abdulkadir Adamu, has finally succumbed to the court by releasing Dr. Peter Odili’s passport.

The former Rivers State governor’s passport, which had been wrongfully confiscated by Immigration on the supposed direction of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was returned to him in Abuja.

360 Media has just seen a motion by the Legal Adviser before the Federal High Court in Abuja certifying the release of the document directly and personally to Odili.

Adamu, on the other hand, is scheduled to appear in court this morning to defend himself against allegations of “professional misconduct” leveled against him by the former governor.

The senior lawyer has been asked to appear before Justice Iyang Eden Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja to justify his role in his agency’s reluctance to comply with his court’s order to release the passport.

The motion and affidavit of compliance, verifying the release of the passport, have been served on Odili’s lawyer, Chief Ifedayo Adedipe, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, at the time of this publication.

Despite a court order that the passport be lodged with the Registrar of the Federal High Court, the Immigration Department carried the document immediately to Odili and handed it over to him in person, according to 360 Media.

Our correspondent also noticed a paper signed by Odili personally acknowledging receipt of the passport.
