Cameroon coach António Conceiço has explained why his team was unable to defeat Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations second semi-final on Thursday.
Egypt defeated the hosts 3-1 in a penalty shootout, advancing the Indomitable Lions to Saturday’s third-place match against Burkina Faso.
On Sunday, the Pharaohs will face Senegal in the final.
Cameroon and Egypt both failed to score in the 120-minute match, with the North Africans emerging victorious in a penalty shoot-out.
“We’re disappointed, but this is football,” Conceiço said after the game.
“The game was close in the second half, but the players were fatigued.”
“At the first half, however, we played well and we were close to scoring on more than one occasion.
“We practiced for penalty kicks, but in the end, everybody could miss. The players are only human after all.”
