The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has asked the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to name a new venue for their 2022 FIFA World Cup playoff against Nigeria, which will take place next month.
The Ghana Football Association is attempting to relocate the first leg of the tie from Cape Coast Stadium to Kumasi’s Baba Yara Stadium.
On March 6, the Cape Coast Stadium will host the country’s Independence Day celebrations.
The request was denied by CAF since it was made outside of the time frame allowed.
“The venues of games shall be set by the host association and/or the confederation, as applicable, and also the matches would only be played in stadiums that have already been inspected and approved by the confederation concerned,” according to article 21 of the FIFA World Cup 2022 preliminary competition regulations.
“The opponents and the FIFA general secretariat shall be notified by the host association and/or the confederation, as appropriate, at least three months before the match in question is scheduled to be played,” CAF said in a statement.
