Tyson Fury vs. Dillian Whyte for the WBC heavyweight belt has finally been confirmed.
Frank Warren, Fury’s promoter in the United Kingdom, earned the highest winning purse bid in boxing history on Friday evening, with his $41,025,000 defeating Matchroom Boxing’s $32,222,222.
For the first time, Whyte will face the undefeated Fury in a world title fight.
Fury came out of a historic trilogy with Deontay Wilder with two major victories.
Anthony Joshua is expected to rematch Oleksandr Usyk for the IBF, WBA, and WBO belts.
Shortly after the announcement, Fury uploaded an Instagram story implying that the fight with Whyte will actually happen in the United Kingdom, with the words “BIG GK IS COMING HOME, UK BABY” accompanying the lyrics to the song “Three Lions.”
Whyte had long been the WBC’s No. 1 contender, but after ‘The Gypsy King’ defeated Wilder for the second time, he was formally appointed as the mandatory challenger to Fury’s crown.
